UOC was founded in 1977 and it is one of the major universities in Greece. It is composed of five schools and 17 Departments. The department of Materials Science and Technology has become a leading research center both in Greece and worldwide that aims to meet the needs of the modern industry. Research covers a broad spectrum of material systems, applications, and technical approaches with common goal of gaining fundamental understanding of materials covering soft matter, biomaterials, semiconductors, opto electronic and magnetic materials, nanophotonics, etc.
